  Lake District Civil Ceremonies
text size: largest larger normal

Armathwaite Hall Country House was amongst the first premises to become licensed to hold Civil Ceremonies in the Lake District and since this time has hosted several hundred such events. In 2004 the Civil Partnership Act allowed same sex couples legal recognition of their relationship and ceremonies are conducted at the Hall also. Civil Ceremonies allow couples to marry in this beautiful Stately Home which has been approved by the local authority.

To arrange a wedding at Armathwaite Hall you must first arrange to meet our Wedding Coordinator to agree a suitable date and make a provisional booking and then contact the Register Office to ensure that a Registration Officer is available. Until recently dates could only be booked twelve months before the ceremony but now the services of the Registrar can be booked up to two years prior to the chosen date. There is a £50.00 non-refundable fee on bookings in addition to the standard wedding fee payable directly to the Registrar. Notice must be given by means of a legal declaration that both parties are free to marry to the Registrar of the area in which they live and also to the Registrar in the area in which the ceremony is to be held. This can only be done within twelve months prior the chosen ceremony date and must be done in person. A minimum period of fifteen days must elapse between this declaration and the ceremony although the recommended period is six weeks to allow for administration. The Superintendent Registrar of your local authority will tell you when your authority to marry is due to be issued and this certificate needs to be taken to the district in which you are to hold the ceremony

Fees for Attendance of Registration Staff April 2010-March 2011

Monday to Thursday £250.00
Friday £275.00
Saturday £310.00
Sunday/Bank Holiday £400.00
