Our award-winning spa

Indulge in a relaxing day at the award-winning Armathwaite Spa – enjoy a dip in our 16m infinity pool, book a restorative spa treatment or spend some time in our outdoor hot tub.

Please note that the spa operates time restrictions for guests under 18 years of age – swim times range from 8.30am–9.30am and 5pm–6pm. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

High-quality dining

Experience our delicious dining options in our Lake District family hotel – enjoy an evening meal in our Lake View Restaurant, take lunch in The Grill and treat the whole family to an Armathwaite Hall afternoon tea.

Dog-friendly hotel

Bring the canine members of your family along to our Lake District family hotel with our special dog-friendly rooms – at a cost of £25 per dog, per night, you can make sure your faithful friend enjoys the holiday of a lifetime!

Your dog-friendly room includes comfortable cushions, dog treats and waste bags. Plus, you can treat your beloved pup to a lovely meal with our Canine Cuisine menu.

Please note that dogs are not permitted in all of the public rooms and must be kept on a lead in the surrounding gardens. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the Hall Lounge from 10am–7pm.

Special family rooms in the Lake District

Select from our varied room types, including specific family rooms, complete with extra beds, each featuring Egyptian cotton linen and luxury mattress toppers. We also have interconnecting rooms available if you have older children or grandparents in need of their own space.

Children under 12 years sharing with adults are accommodated at £25 per child, per night, including breakfast. Children in deluxe family rooms with adjoining twin rooms are charged at £60 per child, per night, with breakfast included.

Children under 16 years occupying adult accommodation will receive a 25% discount off the bed and breakfast tariff.

Our family accommodation in the Lake District is situated between the two charming market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth, each boasting a wealth of fun and exciting things to do for all the family.

Whether you are an energetic, nature-loving family or you prefer interactive indoor activities, the Lake District has plenty of opportunities to make unforgettable holiday memories.

Lakes Aquarium

The perfect activity for a rainy day, there is plenty to explore at the Lakes Aquarium. From cute ducks and adorable otters to the more exotic rainforest frogs and amazing seahorses, this aquarium is fun for all ages. Plus, children under three go free!

Make sure you take a walk through the special Journey Below Lake Windermere exhibit, before stopping off at the gift shop for a souvenir to remember your day out.

The World of Beatrix Potter

Enter the magical World of Beatrix Potter and be transported inside the beloved books and films featuring Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddleduck and all of their friends!

Take a walk through woodland glades and inside fairytale houses, spotting familiar characters as you go, with plenty of interactive experiences and photo opportunities along the way. Make sure you do not miss the charming Peter Rabbit Garden or the wonderful gift shop. You can even enjoy a delicious lunch in the onsite café.

Keswick Launch Co

Explore the majesty of Derwentwater with a wonderful lake cruise on one of the Keswick Launches. Enjoy breathtaking views of Skiddaw and sail past Derwentwater’s four islands, each rich with their own history.

Lake cruises last for around 50 minutes in total, plus you can disembark and explore the local area at eight different jetties during the journey. The boats also have covered decks in case of rain and well-behaved dogs are welcome on board, free of charge.

If you would prefer to strike out on your own, you can also hire rowing and self-drive motor boats to sail around the islands and discover the beaches. Family-size boats can be hired for up to two hours and under 16s go free.

Boats are available for hire from 1st April until 5th November. Safety training, life jackets and a sailing guide are provided, so no prior experience with boats is necessary to enjoy the experience. Dogs are also welcome on the hire boats.

Lake District Wildlife Park

Take a trip to the Lake District Wildlife Park – situated on the Armathwaite Hall 400-acre estate, our very own family attraction offers a great day out for all. It is the perfect treat for animal lovers and aspiring zookeepers!

Families staying with us receive special admission rates: adult tickets are two for the price of one, while children go free. The Lake District Wildlife Park is home to hundreds of rare and endangered animals, birds of prey and reptiles with amazing daily demonstrations, plus a soft play centre, gift shop and tearoom.

The Puzzling Place

Filled with endless family fun, The Puzzling Place is packed with illusions and experiences like no other! Visit the Eyelusions Exhibition, take a trip through the Hologram Gallery and be amazed by the Anti-Gravity Room.

With plenty of unique photo opportunities and unusual exhibits, this special experience will not be forgotten in a hurry. Great fun for all ages, there are discounted tickets available for over 65s, while children under five go free. Well-behaved dogs on short leads are also welcome.

Theatre by the Lake

Spend a theatrical evening at the beautiful Theatre by the Lake. Families with older children can take in a modern adaptation of Shakespeare, while little ones will love the stage retellings of classic fairytales.

Parents and grandparents can also enjoy a night out with seasonal festivals, original theatre performances, comedy nights and more throughout the year.

Enjoy a drink and some nibbles before your show in the Spotlight Bar and Café or the Lakeside Café Restaurant. The theatre also regularly hosts free exhibitions in their gallery space.

Go Ape, Grizedale Forest

Take a trip through the treetops with Go Ape’s Treetop Challenge or get an adrenaline rush with their Zip Trekking Adventure. Fly down ziplines, tackle high ropes courses and experience the Lake District like you have never seen it before.

Adventurous little ones (aged 4–10) can try the Treetop Adventure experience, featuring exciting obstacles and entry-level high ropes courses, plus their fair share of ziplines!

Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway

The perfect treat for families of all ages, this incredible railway takes you on a seven-mile journey through the magnificent Lake District countryside, with seven optional stops along the way.

With plenty of historical significance to entertain history buffs, along with a selection of lovely cafés and a pub at the various stations along the line, gift shops and The Ravenglass Railway Museum, you will be spoilt for choice during this fantastic experience.

The train journey itself is beloved by passengers of all ages, with a wealth of gorgeous photo opportunities along the way. There are also a number of events running throughout the year, for little ones and their families alike.
